Sarah E Needleman:
For those that did not read the original article this post addresses my opinions on text speaking and arguments for and against hiring managers judgements on turning away potential interns and employees using text speaking.

“Textspeak” is bound to happen especially in our ever increasing use of technology and its technological advancements. Through the use of technology and social media “textspeak” has become a dialect in its own right however it  is putting off hiring managers as it shows a sign of unprofessionalism and even childishness and to some extent I do agree with the judgements that managers make when hiring employees.

Text Speaking in a formal context such as a “thank you email” to a hiring manager is not appropriate since managers are most likely looking for a level of sophistication and formality. Managers would and should be worried when this type of communication is brought into the workplace and used with clients since judgements would be made on the faculty that it is unprofessional and may not even be well-accommodated to help which is obviously not good for business.Nowadays due to all other social medias like twitter, instagram and facebook emails have become a professional tool for communication and thus using informal language can be displeasing especially for authority figures. It is influencing improper language,  however due to the evolving world that we live in text speaking is inevitable and I belief that it has some benefits and that potential employees should not be judged on the way they text.

Text Speaking, personally I find more organic. Aren’t people more comfortable with using “ fingered speech”?. It is a more common form of communication which provides a friendlier vibe which has the potential to attract more clients since people would feel more at ease when communicating. In addition I don’t agree with an informal email being a deciding factor of hiring an employee or not. The unfortunate girl that lost an internship due to an unprofessional email despite the hiring manager already liking her is quite unfair.

This new form of communication is spreading fast and I think older workers who are culturally divided should adapt to this change since it can increase business and going against change will bring about many challenges.
